I started making collages in 2007 in an Adult Education class. I painted mostly before that, always structured using a photo reference. I liked collage immediately- the way you could express yourself by gluing different colored paper shapes and images together. Somehow that tickled my fancy. There was a freedom within the process that I had not experienced painting.
Early on I made small collage cards for my family, friends & colleagues using pictures from magazines. My friends liked the cards, and that inspired me to continue making more.
As time passed, I took many more classes and became interested in making collages using beautiful pieces of store bought papers. Later I began embellishing my own paper- with rubber stamps, stencils, using paint on gelli plate and other media. I am still growing in my craft and having a lot of fun stretching myself, and I continue to experiment. In recent times I have added paint back in to my collages- sometimes painting first, other times collaging first, then adding paint. I have come to love mixed media.
I have had collage pieces in many shows since 2009, when I put my first collage piece in a staff show in the gallery at the Non-Profit I was working for. I enjoy sharing what I do with friends and with the public.

I moved to Sebastopol in Sonoma County 2 years ago, from a small coastal town in Marin County. Here I have found more opportunities to show my work. I have a large studio on the property we purchased where I can leave out my projects and return to them with ease. Believe me this helps in the creative process.

The creative process is a priority in my life. During the Shelter in Place, making art has helped to fill my time, but on a deeper level it is my voice and medicine and in this I find there is so much to be thankful for even in these times.

The pieces are mostly nature themed and hold symbolism for me. I am capturing moments of beauty I have witnessed in the natural world. I think especially during my time in Sebastopol I have been growing as an artist and flowers are a metaphor for reaching out and growing into the light.
